7/29/20 - Aquatic Center - Updates to Summer Swim
PRESS RELEASE - July 29, 2020
Milton-Freewater Pool – Updates to Summer Swim
The Joe Humbert Aquatic Center is updating its summer swim schedule effective immediately. These changes are being made to help reduce concerns over social distancing and use of the pool during open swim. Pool staff has been adjusting the schedule since the pool opened to ensure compliance with required visibility for the lifeguards.
Working as a close team the Milton-Freewater Parks and Recreation and YMCA Aquatics staff recommended that the pool Open Swim be cancelled rather than limit it to the shallow end only. Lap swim, water aerobics and swim lessons will continue and be expanded.
“Our pool is vital to the health and wellbeing of our community,” said Linda Hall City Manager. “While open swim has proven challenging due to social distancing and the effect larger groups are having on water clarity, especially in the deep end, we took a step back to consider how best to provide a place for kids to stay cool this summer.”
“With the goal of providing our children a chance to enjoy the pool, we are pleased to offer free swim lessons for children ages 3-18 beginning with the current session that began July 27, 2020. These lessons are made possible through a generous donation that the Y received from a long-time Milton-Freewater resident. If you have already paid for these classes, your fees will be refunded as will fees for those who have purchased summer passes for Open Swim.”
To sign up for swim lessons please visit the YMCA’s website at www.wwymca.org - go to Programs/Aquatics and Register Today.
