PUBLIC WORKS SUPERVISOR - PARKS/RECREATION/BUILDINGS

Position: Public Works Supervisor – Parks/Recreation/Buildings
Salary: $28.71 to $35.22 per hour. (5 Pay Step Grades)
Duties: Supervises and participates with a crew of employees engaged in maintaining parks, golf course, public buildings and grounds, and recreational areas and facilities. Able to respond, trouble-shoot and solve various complex problems and answer questions which arise within the scope of related work projects. Does related work as required.
Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques used in the maintenance of parks, golf course, buildings, grounds, recreational facilities and other related projects. Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to horticulture, landscaping, turf management, arborist practices, irrigation system operations and building maintenance. Considerable knowledge of modern principles and practices of public parks and recreation programs, organization and operations.
Ability to plan, organize, and direct and evaluate work of a number of semi-skilled and skilled employees in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to estimate time, materials, and equipment needed for specific projects and to adhere to budgetary and fiscal rules and limitations. Ability to maintain records and prepare concise reports. Ability to establish harmonious working relationships with public officials, other employees and the general public.
Experience and Training: Considerable experience and expertise with a variety of public and recreation facilities with at least three years in a supervisory capacity preferably in a working supervisor role. Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Landscaping or closely preferred field is preferred but not required. Any other satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which insures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above.
Method of Selection: Evaluation of candidates background from completed application form and resume. Only those applicants who appear to be best qualified as determined by a screening committee will be tested or interviewed. However, the City of Milton-Freewater reserves the right to not fill this position, reject all applications, reopen the position or make a direct appointment.
